Don’t Fear The Chisel!

Don’t Fear The Chisel!

Don’t fear the chisel!

3 things will hurt when God applies the chisel… #1: PRIDE

The Problem of Pride

Most of the significant problems that we encounter in our lives are fueled by pride.

Do I have a pride problem?

The Pride Quiz (VERY SCIENTIFIC!)

Answer yes or no!

  1.     2.     3.     4.     5.     6.     7.

God’s Word on Pride

Proverbs 8:13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.

James 4:6 God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

You choose- God’s resistance or God’s assistance.

Micah 6:8 …what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Uncontrolled pride in our lives is a LORDSHIP ISSUE.

Pride Vs. Humility

Pride is an affront to God, humility honours God

Pride promotes self; humility lets God do the promoting.

Pride considers what’s best for me; humility considers what’s best for others.

Pride has a short fuse; humility has a long fuse.

Pride says, “I know I’m right;” humility says, “I could be wrong.”

Pride looks down on others; humility looks out for others.

Pride thinks he doesn’t want any help; humility knows he needs lots of help.

Pride complains; humility is grateful.

Pride rebels against legitimate authority; humility submits to legitimate authority.

Pride rejects counsel; humility seeks counsel.

Pride has to have it my way; humility is willing to yield.

Pride is quick to speak; humility is quick to listen.

Learning Humility

You don’t need to protect your rights or call attention to your deeds because God is your defender, and he keeps the books. (Ps 118, Num. 12:1-9)

You possess nothing but what you have received. (1 Cor 4:6-7)

Apart from Christ, you can do nothing. (John 15:5-8)

You have not earned your salvation, and you can’t do anything to make God love you more. (Ps. 116:12-14, Romans 5:1-11)

You have been loved, saved and adopted as God’s child by the work of God’s love and power. (Ephesians 2:1-10)

You don’t need to compare yourself to other people, up or down. Jesus is the standard. (1 Jn 4:9-11, Col 1:21-23)

Take the Chisel to Pride…

Drop independence for inter-Dependence. Drop self-sufficiency for trust.

Drop self-preservation for selflessness. Drop pride for humility.

Let God’s chisel break away your pride so humility can be revealed.
