Psalm 9:10: “…Those who know your name put their trust in you.” Hello My Name Is: Recap I AM: YHWH is REAL, and He is the same yesterday, today and forever. GLORIOUS: Everything God does reveals his renown and power – His Glorious Name. The reason for being everything we are, and doing everything we do. “Merciful & Gracious” Ex 34:6-7 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. YHWH is the God of Second Chances. Sometimes We Struggle with Second Chances. There are two kinds of people who struggle with mercy and grace… One thinks he is too far gone to be forgiven. Another thinks forgiveness is easy. Your pride that makes you think you are too good for grace is just as wrong as the fear in the other guy’s heart that he isn’t good enough for it. Mercy and Grace is God’s risky and extravagant agape love in action. God Defines His Heart of Mercy and Grace With 5 Simple Statements. Ex 34:6-7 1)God abounds in steadfast love and faithfulness. The I AM is unlimited in love and faithfulness. 2)Keeping Steadfast Love. God’s love is durable. 3)Slow to Anger. God has a big nose! PR 15:1 4&5) Merciful AND Forgiving. God forgives iniquity and transgression and sin. Jesus Christ Confirms God’s Merciful Nature. What God forgives, He forgets. He forgives and forgets because Jesus paid it all. Oswald Chambers: God, through the death of Jesus, makes an unholy man holy. C.S. Lewis: Jesus did not come to make bad people good but to make dead people alive. Eph 2:4,5 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. Discussion Questions -Describe a time, as a kid, you got something good that you didn’t deserve. -Do you struggle with second chances? Why do you think God offers them to both Israel and to believers? -Which one of the “5 statements” really had an impact on you? Why? -As someone who has benefitted from the mercy and grace of God, is there any area you need to apply this; within your own life or towards others? Can we pray about that together?
